With hiring me, a professional WordPress Website designer & developer, I’m able to offer you a professional and affordable web service that includes:Â
We can meet to discuss your website project or we can carry out your project virtually either other the phone, email or zoom.Â
I have over 30 clients and work for 4 agencies who outsource WordPress projects on a regular basis.Â
Wix or WordPress.Â
Let’s start with Wix. Wix comes with a monthly fee starting from £3.50 (at the time of writing this). You would get a basic website that would include Wix branded adverts on your website – not very professional at all. The next package up is £6.50 per month which basically removes the unwanted ads! This package offers you with just 2GB of bandwidth – in simple terms, be careful if your website will include media such as videos and large images as this will slow your website right down! The ‘most popular’ package they say, is £9.50 per month which allows unlimited bandwidth. And the final ‘VIP’ package is £19 per month. What’s good about this package is that you get ‘priority support’. Meaning if you take a lower package then your not priority and who knows how long they take to support your queries. Â
From what i can see with Wix, as your website grows, the more you are going to need to update your plan resulting in 12 months x £19 = £228 per year with a website builder you have learn to get to grips with to build a website for yourself.Â
The good news is, WordPress is free. You can install it via your hosting account such as GoDaddy and you are on your way. Or if you don’t feel confident in doing so, All you can hire a WordPress website developer like me and pay a one off cost and we do ALL the work. Unlike using a templated Wix theme, a WordPress developer will custom design and build your website tailored to your ideas. Once the website is complete, you have the ability to update your website content in a really easy to use admin section.Â
With both Wix and WordPress, they work similar when it comes to design. Both offer ‘template and themes’. A template / theme is basically a full functioning website installed with no coding requirements needed. Free themes are available or if you require a more professional website then there are paid themes available. Once installed, all you need to do is change the content and images to yours. The downside to this, you could have a website looking just like someone else’s!
Wix offers roughly 900 themes, whereas WordPress offers thousands!
Another advantage with WordPress is custom built websites. There are free template builder plugins such as Elementor that can be installed easily with a few clicks. This allows you to build a custom website based on all your own design ideas . This option is what WordPress developers like myself do – one off fee for a full custom designed WordPress website.
Wix calls them apps and WordPress calls them plugins. These are add ons that can be bolted onto your website such as contact forms, testimonial sliders and galleries. Wix offers 200+ apps where as WordPress is the clear winner with over 60,000 plugins (at the time of writing this post). If you need a certain feature or your website, such as making a page password protected, then no doubt WordPress has it covered with a plugin. Many of my ‘ex-wix’ clients have hired me to transform their wix website to a WordPress site for the simple reason – Wix wont allow them to add certain features to their website.Â
Conclusion
It all boils down to
a) how do you see your website in a few years from now b) how much do you want your business to grow c) do you want to do it yourself? d) do you want to pay a one off fee or monthly fee e) do you want to be put on a support list or talk to a WordPress developer personally?
The answer to each of these will determine the best choice to which is right for you – Wix or WordPress.
If you require a simple website that doesn’t intend to grow and you want to do it yourself, then maybe a middle weight Wix package may be best for you.
If you want a simple website or high spec website but you dont want to do it yourself then you maybe best hiring a WordPress design /Â developer.Â
If you require a custom designed website then I would certainly recommend WordPress. Please feel free to get in touch with me for any questions or advice you may need. Im always happy to help.
